What does money really have to do with it? ⭒ ⭒ Unfortunately, money plays a big role in almost every aspect of our everyday lives. Having more money tends to give people the upper hand or advantages whether they deserve it or not. Money is the leading force of our society, economy, and even relationships with the people around us. Money involvement in schools is more evident than we’d like to admit. I’d love to live in a world where money doesn’t affect people’s opportunities but that is just not the case. William Parrett expresses th...

How Does Gender Affect the Teaching Profession? Just like any job, the teacher profession has many gender specific stereotypes that are placed on the job itself and the people who choose to pursue it. Because women are often seen as gentle and patient, it is seen as fitting for a girl to want to become a teacher. Men on the other hand, can be portrayed as more aggressive and not as understanding or gentle so the teacher profession is not always as encouraged. Although it shouldn’t, other people’s opinions on your dreams and desires do have an effect on your own thoughts on them and if you will act on them. For me, I have been very lucky to be fully supported in my desire to become a teacher. I have been told that I am great with kids and very kind and gentle. I wonder if I were a male with the same personality if other people’s opinions would be the same. ...

Do I have the full picture? The full picture could often be mistaken for someone’s personal entire picture. But that’s not at all what we’re talking about this week. The full picture that will make a difference in how we treat other people is the full picture of everyone’s life. The first step to seeing the full picture is to recognize the people around you. People often call it “people yourself in other people’s shoes.” This week, Autumn Roberson-Manahan’s story stood out to me immensely. Growing up in a Christian household and attending private school, I have a different and more sheltered outlook than most people. Thankfully, I have never witnessed the minority in my schools being treated the way Autumn was treated at her school. I pride myself on being empathetic towards everyone. Especially people that I can’t perfectly relate to. Being able to see the full picture requires empathy. The administrator that Autumn reported the incident to said...

How do we talk about things that matter? In society "things that matter" are considered controversial, difficult, or even disrespectful in some cases. I believe that the only reason we see these topics as difficult to discuss is because the way we go about talking about them. Everyone has different experiences and therefore have different opinions. Because of this, conflict is inevitable. The way to avoid this is to broaden our horizons. If everyone involved is aware that we are all different then all parties can be civil enough to accept the different opinions. The question is, how do we do this? Hannah Arendt asks the same questions, "How can we seek out or listen to those who hold different beliefs from our own?" Of course, it's easy to say that we will be open minded but when the time comes will that be our first instinct? No, probably not. Unless, we put this into practice starting at a young age and make it normal. A...

Hey y'all! I'm Hannah Babineaux, a freshmen elementary education major! I absolutely adore kids and take pride in my passion to educate and invest in the future generation. My love for kids started at a young age. I have always known this is what I want to do and I am so excited to start my journey of learning how to be the best educator possible. In high school I started teaching young girls at my dance studio. The support from my teachers and peers further ignited my passion for teaching. I love being able to see my impact and influence I have on the children I teach first hand. I believe the elementary years of school are the most important. Building a s...
